At a time when the European Union is seeking to reconcile energy sovereignty, climate neutrality and security of supply, this seminar will bring together academics, public authorities and stakeholders from the nuclear sector to discuss financing issues, and especially the design of Contracts for Difference (CfDs) for new nuclear projects. Organised by Confrontations Europe in partnership with the European Research Platform on Energy and Climate Law, the event takes place in the context of the recent guidance published by the European Commission on two-way CfDs.
The discussions will focus on the main lessons to be drawn from these new guidelines, particularly regarding regulation, electricity markets and the economic viability of nuclear projects.
A first roundtable will explore the key issues surrounding CfD design, load-following capabilities of new nuclear power plants, and the role of forward markets in setting reference prices.
A second roundtable will bring together representatives involved in ongoing nuclear projects across Europe, notably in France, Poland and Czechia, to share practical experience and discuss the challenges associated with deploying new nuclear capacity in Europe.
